All Intern Abroad HQ programs include a guided reflection course, which combines personal development with professional competency building. Interns receive weekly reflection modules to complete during their program, which foster the acquisition of essential soft skills for employability and a resilient career. Each reflective journaling task introduces a new topic, presents learning objectives, and provides specific prompts that inspire and guide the learning process.
Intern Abroad HQ does not award grades for the completion of our internship programs, but interns can be supported to independently arrange academic credit through their home educational provider. Upon completion of the internship duration and reflection course, interns receive a portfolio as documentation of their experience. This includes a certificate of internship completion, alongside a summary of the internship goals, skill development, highlights, and a compilation of the reflection work.
Programs begin every Monday and participants may choose to spend a minimum of 8 weeks, up to a maximum of 24 weeks. Interns are advised not to book their flights until they have first registered to confirm their participation. In order to intern in Bali, all nationalities are required to obtain a visa in advance. We’re here to help and are accustomed to assisting with the process. Although different countries can have varying regulations for visiting Indonesia, once you submit an application to express your interest, we can provide guidance as it pertains to you.
The typical port of entry into the program is the Ngurah Rai International Airport (the airport code is DPS). Airport pick up is included in the program fee and transportation from the airport to the intern accommodation is approximately 30 minutes from the airport (please note that times may vary depending on traffic conditions). Alternatively, interns who arrive to the program overland can arrange in advance to be picked up from another location within Bali.
Upon arrival to the accommodation, interns will be greeted and the procedure will be explained for the next steps, concerning your internship orientation and introductory period. Accommodation is covered from the Sunday night before the Monday start date. The last night of the accommodation is the Friday night of the final week, leaving interns free to depart on Saturday morning.
Orientation takes place on the Monday and covers important details for your internship, including introductions, information about culture, customs, rules, expectations, safety, cultural excursions, and more. Your specific internship placement orientation will follow the general orientation, as you’ll be shown how to travel to and from your internship and be introduced to the team you’ll be joining.
All interns in Bali are accommodated in comfortable shared living facilities. Bedding is provided and interns can expect to have their own bedroom and bathroom for privacy. Rooms are comfortable and typically include a desk to work. Living, dining, and swimming pool areas are shared. Accommodation includes WiFi but the speed can sometimes be slow (compared to what you might be used to at home). Due to the layout of Bali’s urban and residential areas, it is normal to commute to and from accommodation. The average commute time (between accommodation and the internship placement) is approximately 20 minutes and should not be more than 45 minutes. Interns should expect to budget approximately US$30 per month for transportation. Additional guidance on getting to and from your internship placement will be provided by the local team in Bali, during your initial orientation and introductory period. Note that the cost of electricity is not included and the accommodation manager will bill you directly for this, according to your monthly usage. (So switch off any A/C units when they’re not in use!) The budget for this should be no more than US$50 per month at the utmost and can be a lot less if you are economical.
Internships in Bali include one daily meal (Monday through Friday), which is provided by the internship host company during the internship working hours. This meal will be a typical Balinese style dish. Rice is a staple in the Indonesian cuisine and may be teamed with fresh vegetables. For all remaining meals, interns are free to source their own food, according to their own preferences. Meals are very affordable in Bali and may cost about US$2-3 per meal within local establishments (prepare to pay more for dining within cafes or restaurants that are targeted toward tourists).
