What recent interns said about their experience
During my 7-week internship as a teacher at an international school, I had the incredible opportunity to teach English to Japanese children aged 2 to 9 years old. I chose this program because of my passion for fostering cross-cultural awareness and language exchange. This experience taught me the immense value of creating an inclusive and engaging learning environment. I gained valuable insights into the nuances of teaching English to young learners, developing patience, adaptability, and effective communication skills. The exposure to diverse teaching methodologies enriched my perspective and enhanced my abilities to tailor instruction to individual needs. As a result, I can offer a unique blend of cross-cultural sensitivity, linguistic expertise, and pedagogical innovation. My experience solidified my commitment to graduate studies in teaching English learners, where I aspire to further refine my teaching methods and contribute to bridging the gap between cultures through education.
The first day of my remote internship was a mixture of anxiety and excitement. After my orientation with the host organization, I felt a lot more relaxed and eager to start! They made me feel welcome and part of the team. My role was centred around producing social media content and encouraging growth. Having now completed my internship, I feel more prepared to assertively enter the communications industry and find my place in a remote working environment. My best advice for others considering a similar experience, always keep an open line of communication with your supervisor and team. Always offer input and suggestions on how to resolve problems.
My internship experience allowed me to travel and meet new people with different cultural backgrounds, enhancing my job ready skills and cultural intelligence! The Business & Media internship in Japan enhanced my general professional abilities such as report writing, time management, teamwork and language abilities. I learned how to write competitor analysis reports and this helped me to have a better understanding of customers' needs. My roommates were from Germany and Austria and we talked about many interesting things such as food, traditions and festivals of one another's culture.
