You know those moments when the temperature is perfect, the food tastes divine, there’s a lovely breeze and melody floating in the air, you are in delightful company, and you know you’ve found your happy place? That’s how I’ve felt about my visit to our internship programs in Greece.
While I work with Intern Abroad HQ, my role is to interact mainly with universities around the world to send their students on our programs. As such, I rarely get the opportunity to interact with our local teams and internship hosts - so this trip to spend time visiting our intern abroad programs in Greece was a real treat for me!
After a week of international education conference meetings in Athens, I set off to visit with students and internship hosts around the country. I was able to tour some of our intern abroad sites in Athens and Thessaloniki, including an amazing wolf, lynx, and brown bear conservation area in an oak forest outside of the villages of Nimfeo and Agrapiedies.
Without exception, each Greek internship host I met was an extraordinary human being, and someone I felt honored to meet. They all were the kind of people that you know were put on this earth to do exactly what they are doing. Whether supporting Medical internships, Veterinary internships, Physical Therapy internships, or those focused on Engineering internships, their depth of knowledge in their field, their connections and passion, and their genuine and generous desire to support students in a reciprocal manner made me confident that students will have everything they need to make the most of their internship experiences. There are soooooooo many amazing projects and exciting possibilities for internships in Greece - it really is an existing destination for students and young professionals!
I also did some obligatory selfies in Santorini and it was a beautiful touristic destination, but I must confess the highlights of my Greece experience were much more about the people I met, the Greek hospitality I experienced that blew me away, the street cats and how kind and generous society is toward them, and the absolute beauty in every view, every interaction, and every bite I took.
I highly recommend going just a bit off the beaten path in Greece to get to know the people and places beyond the touristic destinations. Interning there will grant you access to this amazing country and to receive guidance and mentorship from people you will be lucky to know. Check out our programs and talk with a program manager today about the right fit for you!
