Hola! My name is Veronica, and I’m the Program Manager for all our internships in Cordoba, Argentina. Let me share the details of my incredible visit, where I explored our intern abroad placements in Argentina! You’ll learn about the internship placements we offer, the welcoming homestay accommodations, and see how you can soak up the city life. I am very excited to share this experience with you - especially what makes Cordoba such a standout destination for a meaningful and well-supported internship abroad.

What is it like to experience the Argentinian city of Cordoba?
Cordoba is a dynamic university city buzzing with student energy. It’s full of charming spots to enjoy a pastry, world-class ice cream, or a coffee while watching the city go by. Its walkability makes it easy for interns to feel at home, with most of the internship program accommodation - homestays - conveniently located within walking distance of both the local team’s office and the city’s main cultural and entertainment hubs.
The city of Cordoba comes alive on sunny days, with locals and students flocking to its many parks to share mate - Argentina’s popular herbal drink - and relax with friends. Personally, I found the atmosphere incredibly welcoming, and it’s clear why interns in Argentina feel a sense of belonging so quickly!
Cordoba is also ideally located for travel within Argentina. Interns frequently take weekend trips to iconic destinations like Buenos Aires, the vineyards in Mendoza, IguazĂş Falls, and even Patagonia. While I was there, three interns hopped on an overnight bus to Mendoza for a weekend trip - an experience actively encouraged by our local team to foster friendships and cultural exploration.
“I loved getting to know the Program Directors and people in my program through our nighttime classes. The hospital and Spanish classes taught me a lot, but being immersed in Argentine activities, like mate class, was such a great way to make friends, practice the language, and learn more about the culture. I love the closeness and openness that Argentine people have with each other. I feel much more empowered to ask questions. In the hospital I got a lot of reassurance that my questions were good and the doctors took a lot of time to answer them and make me feel heard.” - Maddie, Medical intern in Argentina

When is it possible to join an internship in Argentina?
Internships in Cordoba, Argentina, are available during the year from February (for Medical internships) and March (for all other internships), through till the end of September. Since Argentina is in the Southern Hemisphere, this period covers the fall, winter, and spring seasons.
When I visited Argentina, it was toward the end of winter and - while it was definitely chilly - it wasn’t unbearably cold. The temperature varied quite a bit depending on the time of day and whether the sun was out. On the same day, it could range anywhere from around 48°F (9°C) to 70°F (21°C).
If you choose to intern in Argentina during March and April (early Autumn), then it can be a very pleasant time to visit - perfect for sightseeing, hiking in the sierras (hills) nearby, or exploring the city - with fewer tourists and without the summer heat.
“Thanks to the open communication Intern Abroad HQ provided, it was easy to plan my travels in advance and explore the country, which helped me better understand the culture. From a professional perspective, IAHQ were also very accommodating regarding my interests, such as attending surgeries and observing operations, which definitely gave me a deeper insight into how the healthcare system in Argentina works and what the differences are. The communication was excellent!” - Simon, Medical intern in Argentina

Who is working in-country to support and host interns in Argentina?
One of the most defining features of our Cordoba internship program is the exceptional support provided to interns by the Argentine team members. If you’re looking for an internship destination where you’ll be welcomed, supported, and guided every step of the way - Cordoba is it!
Throughout your intern abroad experience, the in-country coordinating team - Carlos, Charly, Yuyin, and their beloved French Bulldog, Tita - remains highly engaged and approachable. Their dedication to each intern’s personal and professional growth was evident in every interaction I observed.
Interns in Argentina consistently speak about how supported they feel - not just at their internship placement, but across all aspects of navigating the intercultural experience. This kind of care is what transforms a good internship into a life-changing experience.
“The ability to immerse myself in Argentine culture was highly educational and enjoyable. Although I dealt with some very normal discomfort, confusion, and homesickness initially, the people of Córdoba quickly made me feel welcomed and included. My time at my placement helped me to improve not only my intercultural awareness, but also my ability to adapt into new workplace environments. This is a valuable experience to point to with future employers, and it will continue to serve me down the line, in terms of my cultural, linguistic, and professional development.” - John, Business Development intern in Argentina
What does the Argentina internship orientation include?
From the moment you arrive in Cordoba to commence your internship abroad, the in-country coordinating team ensures you’re set up for success. The internship program includes a comprehensive one-week orientation - this is a game-changer. It covers everything from cultural immersion and program logistics to Argentine history, food, and language. More importantly, it sets the tone for a warm, welcoming environment where interns feel confident, informed, and excited about what lies ahead.
Because this internship orientation lasts the whole first week of your program, you will commence your internship placement in the second week. This ensures that you will already know what to expect, and will have a much deeper understanding of the country, its cultural norms, and how to navigate the cross cultural differences much more seamlessly.
“I enjoyed every minute I’ve been able to be here in Córdoba. I have loved this experience and it has truly changed my life and helped me figure out what I want to do when I am older and out of school. This internship propelled me further towards my long-term goals of working within the healthcare field. Not only have the experiences allowed me to apply what I had learned in a classroom, but they have also allowed me to picture myself working alongside other doctors in a hospital setting. If anything, this internship and learning experience has set me up for success with regards to the career path I intend to pursue.” - Fiona, Medical intern in Argentina

What are the internship placements in Argentina like?
Another aspect that truly stood out to me during my visit was the caliber and impact of the internship placements. These are certainly NOT internships where you’re fetching coffee or sitting on the sidelines! Interns in Cordoba are given hands-on, meaningful responsibilities that contribute directly to the work of their Argentine host organizations.
From Law & Governance internships at the legislature, the city council, and even the Municipality, to Medical internships at top hospitals - the opportunities in Argentina are high-quality, high-impact, and highly respected.
As a Program Manager for this experience, I’ve been immensely proud to see firsthand how Interns in Argentina are not only developing valuable skills, but also gaining experience that significantly boosts their resumes and future career prospects. One intern shared with me how empowered they felt being entrusted with real responsibilities - something they hadn’t expected but found incredibly rewarding.
If you’re looking for an internship that will challenge and inspire you, while making a tangible difference in your professional development, I feel absolutely confident that our program in Argentina is a perfect fit - I’d love to welcome you to this experience and help you plan for it!
“I had an incredible experience in Cordoba, Argentina. My internship taught me about the political impact I can personally have in these contexts and my ability to adapt quickly. I worked on a project that educates local government bodies on Migration management and had the chance to meet with the ambassador of Costa Rica. I learnt about a whole new way of expressing and receiving love on a grand scale and will forever be grateful for my Program Manager and Local Team for making this possible. Thank you!” - Maddison, NGO intern in Argentina

Do you have to speak Spanish to intern in Argentina?
Given the advanced nature of the internship opportunities in Argentina, an intermediate level of Spanish (ideally a strong B1 at minimum) is required to ensure you can fully engage with your international internship experience.
To support your development throughout the experience, our internship program includes 20 hours of Spanish lessons, which not only bolster your language skills but also boost your confidence heading into your internship. Even with those lessons, the stronger your base is at the start of the internship, the more you will gain from it - both professionally and culturally.
“I enjoyed the structure of the program immensely. I felt like they provided a perfect combination of work-related experience, cultural activities, Spanish lessons, and free time so we were able to explore on our own. Generally, I felt very well taken care of by the program coordinators, and I felt like they were always there to help me whenever I needed anything!” - Sia, Medical intern in Argentina

What kind of accommodation is provided to interns in Argentina?
The Intern Abroad HQ program provides interns in Argentina with host family accommodation. We work with several host families in Cordoba to host and support interns throughout their experience. These accommodations are usually located very conveniently - close to the local team’s office and in many cases even walking distance to the placements.
Within the accommodations, interns receive their own private bedroom. The host family will provide you with three meals daily. You can expect a large variety of breads, in many cases sweet, to be served everywhere and at all times of the day - Argentinians love their croissants! And of course their typical “asado” or barbecue, which is a big part of their traditions.
Most of the homestays are located in urban apartments, and very close to the shopping and entertainment district. The one where I stayed was located just a 12-minute walk from Cordoba’s main shopping mall, the Patio Olmos and its main commercial avenue, Avenida Yrigoyen.
“The program managers were very helpful and gave me enough information and support for me to feel comfortable in Argentina. I enjoyed meeting the other students in the program and the Program Directors who were super supportive during my 4 week stay. I also enjoyed staying with my host family, they were great people, my host mom cooked amazing food, and I will miss them greatly. Overall, this experience was amazing and I came from it feeling better about my ability to immerse myself in a new culture with an open mind.” - Elizabeth, NGO intern in Argentina
