Day 1 (Tokyo to Kamakura)

  • 09:00 - Approx. meeting time
  • 11:30 - Arrive at the Hostel in Kamakura (Plat Hostel Keikyu Kamakura Wave or similar), leave your luggage, head for lunch. Lunch is at your own expense
  • 14:00 - After lunch, get ready for a unique cultural experience with a calligraphy class inside a local temple! Immerse yourself in the art of traditional Japanese writing and discover the beauty and precision behind this ancient craft. Plus, you’ll have the chance to take home the art you created as a lasting memory of your time in Japan!
  • 15:00 - You’ll have the rest of the day free to explore Kamakura, a city renowned for its rich historical and religious heritage, or to unwind on its beautiful beaches!

Suggestions:
  • Kotoku-in Temple: Visit the iconic Great Buddha Statue, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
  • Beach Relaxation: Enjoy a relaxing afternoon on Kamakura’s scenic beaches and catch a stunning sunset over the ocean.
  • Hokokuji Temple: Take a public bus to this tranquil temple, known for its serene bamboo forest.

Day 2 (Kamakura to Hakone)

  • 8:00 - Say goodbye to the beach town of Kamakura as you hop on a series of trains and buses to Hakone station. You'll be storing your large luggage today at the train station and taking only your day bags for the night. Please pack your day bag accordingly the day before. In case no lockers are available, you may still need to carry your large bag to Hakone. Your Adventure Leader will provide further updates on the day.
  • 11:45 - Hike along the Old Tokaido and enjoy lunch near Moto-Hakone. 
  • 13:20 - Climb aboard a sightseeing cruise with a twist – it’s a pirate ship! From the deck of this triple-decker man-of-war, you’ll cross the Lake Ashi's clear blue waters and, on a cloudless day, get an unforgettable view of Mt. Fuji. Mt Fuji views depend on the weather conditions.
  • 13:50 - Take the Hakone Ropeway to Owakudani, an active volcanic zone where you can try black eggs which are rumored to extend your life up to seven years. Black eggs are at your own expense if you wish to try and can be found in local stores around.
  • 20:00 - Sake Soirée: evening of Japanese traditions! Please note that the drinking age in Japan is 20.
  • Overnight at Fuji Hakone Guesthouse or similar.

Day 3: Hakone to Odawara and Kyoto

  • 09:00 -  Next stop is the station to board your first bullet train to Kyoto.
  • 10:00 - Explore around Odawara, visit the Odawara Castle, or hunt for your first Japanese Bento box for your Bullet train ride. Depending on the time, your Tour Guide will give you some free time to walk near Odawara Castle before the train. This activity may be canceled in case of delays or changes to the train schedule.
  • 12:08 - Departure to Kyoto by Bullet Train Transportation Please note that train times are subject to change based on availability.
  • 14:00 -  Arrive at Kyoto Station and head to the hostel. (K’s House Hostel Kyoto or similar)
  • 15:00 - After dropping off your luggage, join your Tour Guide for a brief orientation walk along the picturesque Kamo River, providing a tranquil start to your time in Kyoto.
  • 16:00 - Enjoy some free time for independent exploration and dinner.
  • 20:00 - In the evening, sing your heart out doing one of Japan’s favorite pastimes – Karaoke.

Suggestions:
  • Nishihonganji: Explore this historic temple known for its impressive architecture
  • Shosei-en Garden: Stroll through this beautiful garden, famous for its seasonal flowers and peaceful setting.
  • Continue a walk along the Kamo River
  • Sanjusangendo: Visit this temple renowned for its stunning hall with 1,001 statues of Kannon, the Buddhist goddess of mercy.
  • Mandarake: Browse through this unique store offering a range of rare and collectible items, from manga to vintage toys.

Day 4: Kyoto

  • 09:30 - Start the day with a visit to Higashi Hongan-ji Temple, one of the biggest wooden structures in the world. It’s a peaceful spot to explore, and you’ll have the chance to walk around before the crowds arrival. You can join your Guide for a serene morning stroll here or sleep in and meet the group later, as the temple is not far from your accommodation.
  • 10:30 - We’ll head to Fushimi Inari Shrine, famous for its thousands of red torii gates. Here, you can either hike to the top of the mountain for beautiful views of Kyoto or enjoy local street food and lunch nearby until the rest of the group comes back down We will stay in the area until everyone has finished hiking and had some free time for lunch. After that, we will head to the next stop together. Lunch is at your own expense.
  • 15:00 - Visit Kiyomizu-dera Temple, one of the most iconic Buddhist temples in Japan, also designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. After the visit to the temple, your Adventure Leader will take the group to Gion, where you'll be given free independent time.
  • 17:00 -  Enjoy a brief orientation walk with your Tour Guide through the charming Gion district, then have free time for dinner and explore the area at your leisure

Suggestions:
  • Wander through Pontocho Alley in the Geisha District.
  • Watch a performance at Gion Corner (book in advance through its website)
  • Visit Yasaka Shrine in the evening, when it’s beautifully illuminated with lanterns and lights
  • You have free time here to enjoy as you wish. Don't forget to pre-book if you want to head to an independent activity that requires advance booking. Also note that you're expected to make your own way back to the hostel or for your free time.

Day 5: Kyoto-Nara-Kyoto

  • 9:00 - Take a train to Nara for a half-day visit, including the Todaiji Temple, home to one of the world’s largest bronze Buddha statues and a UNESCO World Heritage site, and exploration of Nara Park. Before leaving Nara, you’ll have free time for lunch before going back to Kyoto. The one-way journey takes approximately 50 minutes. Lunch is at your own expense.
  • 14:30 - Head back to Kyoto for some free time for independent explorations.

Suggestions:
  • Tea Ceremony with Geisha: Experience a traditional tea ceremony with a geisha— details below.
  • Explore Arashiyama: Visit the bamboo forest, Tenryuji Garden, and the monkey temple.
  • Rent a Kimono: Walk around the city in a kimono and immerse yourself in local culture.
  • Pokmon Center: Check out the unique Pokémon Center for exclusive merchandise and fun.
  • Manga Museum: Dive into Japanese pop culture at the Manga Museum.
  • You’re expected return to the hostel or continue your explorations independently without your leader. Directions will be provided to help you navigate.
  • Japanese tea ceremony with a geisha! The tea ceremony provides a unique cultural experience which includes insights into Japanese tea customs and a chance to interact with a culturally significant figure. The timing of this activity may vary depending on availability. You will be informed of the specific time once your booking is confirmed. Also note that this activity is not available in March and April. Please note that actual geishas are very rare, so a maiko (an apprentice geisha), who is still learning the art of being a geisha, may also lead the ceremony.
  • Please note that Kyoto is extremely popular, and many attractions sell out quickly. To avoid disappointment, book in advance for anything you’re interested in, especially during busy travel periods like cherry blossom season, early May, autumn, or local holidays.

Day 6: Kyoto-Hiroshima

  • 09:00 - Today we will cycle half day around Kyoto like a local! First, we ride over to a Zen temple where you can discover your inner peace with meditation led by a Buddhist monk with Tea Ceremony. (Please inform your Guide if you prefer other transportation options). Please also note that biking may be canceled on rainy days, with a public bus available to follow the same route.
  • 12:00 - After your journey of tranquility, have a quick lunch nearby, and see an iconic image of Kyoto: The Golden Pavilion at Kinkaku-Ji. Lunch is at your own expense.
  • 14:00 - Jump on your bike and cycle to the Imperial Palace
  • 16:45 - Another bullet train will see you venture further west, bound for Hiroshima. After arrival, head to your hostel (Webase Hiroshima Hostel or similar), check in, and rest until dinner.
  • 20:00 - (Optional) Group dinner at Okonomiyaki Village, where the chef will prepare your meal on a stove in front of you.

Day 7: Hiroshima

  • 8:00 - Pay a visit to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum & Atomic Bomb dome. Your Guide will take you to the museum and provide audio guides at the entrance for those who are interested, after which you'll have free time to explore on your own.
  • 11:00 - After a train ride and a short ferry trip to Miyajima Island, you’ll reach the Itsukushima shrine. Your Guide will join you this afternoon to show you around the island.
  • 13:00 - Just offshore, you will see an enormous Torii gate standing in the sea. At low tide, you can walk across the sand to take a closer look. Free time for lunch at Miyajima Island. Optional lunch at your own expense
  • 14:00 -  Walk to the Miyajima Ropeway passing by he great torii at Itsukushima shrine
  • 16:20 -  Leave Miyajima Island and return to Hiroshima Hostel for free evening and rest.  Make your way back to the hostel and enjoy a free evening to relax
  • Accomodation at Webase Hiroshima Hostel or similar.

Day 8: Osaka

  • 08:10 - Hop on board the bullet train to Osaka.
  • 10:30 - Upon arriving in Osaka, take the subway to your hostel (Lub D Osaka or similar), drop off your luggage, and enjoy a short orientation walk to Shinsaibashi. This vibrant street is perfect for exploring and enjoying some free time for lunch - at your own expense. You’ll then have a free afternoon to explore the city on your own.
  • 18:00 - Meet your fellow travelers and head to Shinsekai for a memorable farewell dinner where you can reflect on your epic journey through Japan. In Shinsekai, you’ll have the chance to see the iconic Tsutenkaku Tower from the outside and capture some great photos. This vibrant area is known for its nostalgic atmosphere, with charming streets lined with local eateries and shops. Dinner is included. Please make sure to inform your Tour Guide about any dietary requirements you may have, 
  • 19:30 -  Return to the Shinsaibashi area to explore the lively streets adorned with neon lights and take a photo with the iconic Running Man sign. Afterwards, join your group for a final drink to celebrate the end of your amazing journey. Drinks are at your own expense

  • Osaka Castle: Visit this historic castle with its stunning architecture and panoramic views of the city.
  • Umeda Shopping Street: Discover a bustling area filled with shops, dining options, and entertainment.
  • National Museum: Explore Japan’s rich history and culture through its extensive exhibits.

Day 9: Osaka

End of the tour. Take the morning to say goodbye to your group and reflect on the amazing adventures you’ve shared.

  • Start of the tour is in Tokyo; end of the tour is in Osaka. On the last day of the tour, you can either return by train to Tokyo (at your own expense), or take a local train to Kyoto and spend extra days at our sharehouse there (you can book our Kyoto add-on); or fly out of Japan from Osaka; or make any other travel plans in Japan.

Remember: If you are staying at one of the World Unite! Sharehouses in Tokyo or Kyoto, you can always store your luggage at no extra charge while you are traveling around Japan.

This is your opportunity to wear a kimono (national costume of Japan) with full accessories like an obi (sash) and tabi (socks). Be supported by an expert dresser who will professionally guide you through the complicated steps of wearing this stunning outfit. History of Kimono:
The kimono, a traditional Japanese garment, has a history spanning over a thousand years. Initially inspired by Chinese Hanfu, the kimono developed its own distinct style during Japan's Heian period (794-1185), where it was worn by both men and women of the aristocracy. Over the centuries, the kimono’s design, fabrics, and wearing styles have evolved, shaped by various historical periods and social classes. Today, the kimono is an enduring symbol of Japanese culture and tradition, worn on special occasions like weddings, tea ceremonies, and festivals.

History of Yukata:
The yukata, a lighter and more casual summer kimono, also traces its origins to the Heian period. Initially used as a bathrobe in traditional Japanese hot springs, the yukata gained popularity as fashionable outdoor wear during the Edo period (1603-1868). Worn during festivals, outdoor events, and fireworks displays, the yukata provided cool, comfortable clothing for hot summer days. Over time, its patterns and designs evolved, reflecting shifts in fashion trends. Today, the yukata remains a beloved garment for summer festivals and cultural celebrations.

  • Shosei-en Garden: Stroll through this beautiful garden, famous for its seasonal flowers and peaceful setting.
  • Continue a walk along the Kamo River
  • Sanjusangendo: Visit this temple renowned for its stunning hall with 1,001 statues of Kannon, the Buddhist goddess of mercy.
  • Mandarake: Browse through this unique store offering a range of rare and collectible items, from manga to vintage toys.

Day 4: Kyoto

  • 09:30 - Start the day with a visit to Higashi Hongan-ji Temple, one of the biggest wooden structures in the world. It’s a peaceful spot to explore, and you’ll have the chance to walk around before the crowds arrival. You can join your Guide for a serene morning stroll here or sleep in and meet the group later, as the temple is not far from your accommodation.
  • 10:30 - We’ll head to Fushimi Inari Shrine, famous for its thousands of red torii gates. Here, you can either hike to the top of the mountain for beautiful views of Kyoto or enjoy local street food and lunch nearby until the rest of the group comes back down We will stay in the area until everyone has finished hiking and had some free time for lunch. After that, we will head to the next stop together. Lunch is at your own expense.
  • 15:00 - Visit Kiyomizu-dera Temple, one of the most iconic Buddhist temples in Japan, also designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. After the visit to the temple, your Adventure Leader will take the group to Gion, where you'll be given free independent time.
  • 17:00 -  Enjoy a brief orientation walk with your Tour Guide through the charming Gion district, then have free time for dinner and explore the area at your leisure

Suggestions:
  • Wander through Pontocho Alley in the Geisha District.
  • Watch a performance at Gion Corner (book in advance through its website)
  • Visit Yasaka Shrine in the evening, when it’s beautifully illuminated with lanterns and lights
  • You have free time here to enjoy as you wish. Don't forget to pre-book if you want to head to an independent activity that requires advance booking. Also note that you're expected to make your own way back to the hostel or for your free time.

Day 5: Kyoto-Nara-Kyoto

  • 9:00 - Take a train to Nara for a half-day visit, including the Todaiji Temple, home to one of the world’s largest bronze Buddha statues and a UNESCO World Heritage site, and exploration of Nara Park. Before leaving Nara, you’ll have free time for lunch before going back to Kyoto. The one-way journey takes approximately 50 minutes. Lunch is at your own expense.
  • 14:30 - Head back to Kyoto for some free time for independent explorations.

Suggestions:
  • Tea Ceremony with Geisha: Experience a traditional tea ceremony with a geisha— details below.
  • Explore Arashiyama: Visit the bamboo forest, Tenryuji Garden, and the monkey temple.
  • Rent a Kimono: Walk around the city in a kimono and immerse yourself in local culture.
  • Pokmon Center: Check out the unique Pokémon Center for exclusive merchandise and fun.
  • Manga Museum: Dive into Japanese pop culture at the Manga Museum.
  • You’re expected return to the hostel or continue your explorations independently without your leader. Directions will be provided to help you navigate.
  • Japanese tea ceremony with a geisha! The tea ceremony provides a unique cultural experience which includes insights into Japanese tea customs and a chance to interact with a culturally significant figure. The timing of this activity may vary depending on availability. You will be informed of the specific time once your booking is confirmed. Also note that this activity is not available in March and April. Please note that actual geishas are very rare, so a maiko (an apprentice geisha), who is still learning the art of being a geisha, may also lead the ceremony.
  • Please note that Kyoto is extremely popular, and many attractions sell out quickly. To avoid disappointment, book in advance for anything you’re interested in, especially during busy travel periods like cherry blossom season, early May, autumn, or local holidays.

Day 6: Kyoto-Hiroshima

  • 09:00 - Today we will cycle half day around Kyoto like a local! First, we ride over to a Zen temple where you can discover your inner peace with meditation led by a Buddhist monk with Tea Ceremony. (Please inform your Guide if you prefer other transportation options). Please also note that biking may be canceled on rainy days, with a public bus available to follow the same route.
  • 12:00 - After your journey of tranquility, have a quick lunch nearby, and see an iconic image of Kyoto: The Golden Pavilion at Kinkaku-Ji. Lunch is at your own expense.
  • 14:00 - Jump on your bike and cycle to the Imperial Palace
  • 16:45 - Another bullet train will see you venture further west, bound for Hiroshima. After arrival, head to your hostel (Webase Hiroshima Hostel or similar), check in, and rest until dinner.
  • 20:00 - (Optional) Group dinner at Okonomiyaki Village, where the chef will prepare your meal on a stove in front of you.

Day 7: Hiroshima

  • 8:00 - Pay a visit to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum & Atomic Bomb dome. Your Guide will take you to the museum and provide audio guides at the entrance for those who are interested, after which you'll have free time to explore on your own.
  • 11:00 - After a train ride and a short ferry trip to Miyajima Island, you’ll reach the Itsukushima shrine. Your Guide will join you this afternoon to show you around the island.
  • 13:00 - Just offshore, you will see an enormous Torii gate standing in the sea. At low tide, you can walk across the sand to take a closer look. Free time for lunch at Miyajima Island. Optional lunch at your own expense
  • 14:00 -  Walk to the Miyajima Ropeway passing by he great torii at Itsukushima shrine
  • 16:20 -  Leave Miyajima Island and return to Hiroshima Hostel for free evening and rest.  Make your way back to the hostel and enjoy a free evening to relax
  • Accomodation at Webase Hiroshima Hostel or similar.

Day 8: Osaka

  • 08:10 - Hop on board the bullet train to Osaka.
  • 10:30 - Upon arriving in Osaka, take the subway to your hostel (Lub D Osaka or similar), drop off your luggage, and enjoy a short orientation walk to Shinsaibashi. This vibrant street is perfect for exploring and enjoying some free time for lunch - at your own expense. You’ll then have a free afternoon to explore the city on your own.
  • 18:00 - Meet your fellow travelers and head to Shinsekai for a memorable farewell dinner where you can reflect on your epic journey through Japan. In Shinsekai, you’ll have the chance to see the iconic Tsutenkaku Tower from the outside and capture some great photos. This vibrant area is known for its nostalgic atmosphere, with charming streets lined with local eateries and shops. Dinner is included. Please make sure to inform your Tour Guide about any dietary requirements you may have, 
  • 19:30 -  Return to the Shinsaibashi area to explore the lively streets adorned with neon lights and take a photo with the iconic Running Man sign. Afterwards, join your group for a final drink to celebrate the end of your amazing journey. Drinks are at your own expense

Suggestions:
  • Osaka Castle: Visit this historic castle with its stunning architecture and panoramic views of the city.
  • Umeda Shopping Street: Discover a bustling area filled with shops, dining options, and entertainment.
  • National Museum: Explore Japan’s rich history and culture through its extensive exhibits.

Day 9: Osaka

End of the tour. Take the morning to say goodbye to your group and reflect on the amazing adventures you’ve shared.

  • Meals are not included. Your Tour Guide will recommend local restaurants
  • Start of the tour is in Tokyo; end of the tour is in Osaka. On the last day of the tour, you can either return by train to Tokyo (at your own expense), or take a local train to Kyoto and spend extra days at our sharehouse there (you can book our Kyoto add-on); or fly out of Japan from Osaka; or make any other travel plans in Japan.

Remember: If you are staying at one of the World Unite! Sharehouses in Tokyo or Kyoto, you can always store your luggage at no extra charge while you are traveling around Japan.

This is your opportunity to wear a kimono (national costume of Japan) with full accessories like an obi (sash) and tabi (socks). Be supported by an expert dresser who will professionally guide you through the complicated steps of wearing this stunning outfit. You will also have the opportunity to have your photo taken for a great souvenir to remember your time in Japan.

History of Kimono:
The kimono, a traditional Japanese garment, has a history spanning over a thousand years. Initially inspired by Chinese Hanfu, the kimono developed its own distinct style during Japan's Heian period (794-1185), where it was worn by both men and women of the aristocracy. Over the centuries, the kimono’s design, fabrics, and wearing styles have evolved, shaped by various historical periods and social classes. Today, the kimono is an enduring symbol of Japanese culture and tradition, worn on special occasions like weddings, tea ceremonies, and festivals.

History of Yukata:
The yukata, a lighter and more casual summer kimono, also traces its origins to the Heian period. Initially used as a bathrobe in traditional Japanese hot springs, the yukata gained popularity as fashionable outdoor wear during the Edo period (1603-1868). Worn during festivals, outdoor events, and fireworks displays, the yukata provided cool, comfortable clothing for hot summer days. Over time, its patterns and designs evolved, reflecting shifts in fashion trends. Today, the yukata remains a beloved garment for summer festivals and cultural celebrations.

You can choose between wearing a yukata or kimono. The price remains the same regardless of your choice. Please note the following event details:

  • If you wish to have makeup done at the event, makeup is provided, though hair services are not included.
