Day 1 – Welcome to Japan! Tokyo Time
Touch down in Tokyo! Arrive into your Tokyo hostel and relax until the evening. Tonight we’ll take you out to feast on Japanese cuisine and meet the rest of your group. After dinner when the crowds have all dispersed, we explore the iconic Tokyo Senso-ji Temple by night!

Day 2 - Explore Tokyo: Harajuku, Yoyogi Park & Akihabara
We’ll start the morning off with a Japan Orientation Briefing. You’ll learn simple Japanese customs and phrases to help you dictate your way across the country. We’ll then head out to the birth place of Japanese teen pop culture, Harajuku. We’ll then head into Yoyogi Park, host of the beautiful Meiji Shrine.
Afterwards, we’ll head to Akihabara – Tokyo’s electric town – and be blinded by the all the neon lights and chaotic shops in store. You can challenge each other in the arcades, check out the famous Maid Cafes or just wander around the area.

Day 3 - Tokyo: Sushi Making Class & Shibuya Crossing
In the morning after breakfast we will head over to our own private sushi making class! You will learn how to make Miso soup, three types of sushi and the secrets behind Teriyaki! Vegetarian option is available but you must notify your guide/One Life a week before the tour starts. This evening we head to Shinjuku, we’ll see an unparalleled skyline of Tokyo, check out the famous Omoide Yokocho alley & grab some dinner. before viewing the famous Shibuya Pedestrian Crossing.

Day 4 - Hakone: Mt Fuji Viewing & Romance Car
Today we take the aptly named “Romance Car” to the stunning mountain town of Hakone. After checking into our guest house situated in the mountains, we will spend the day exploring the surrounding areas on a variety of different transports. Why is Hakone so special? Well, not only is the food incredible but you can get a spectacular view of Mt Fuji (weather dependent.) After a day of exploring and taking photos of Japan’s most famous mountain we’ll arrange a traditional Japanese Family Nabe dinner in our guesthouse and finish the day playing some games.
*If you have asthma/respiratory condition, the brief visit to Owakudani is not advisable, please speak to your guide for an alternate arrangement.

Day 5 - Takayama: Sake Tasting, Temple Stay & Old Town Tour
Today is the day we ride the world-famous shinkansen for the first time. Watch them fly by on the platform before boarding one of the world’s fastest train.
Keep an eye out for Mt Fuji on the way. First stop is the UNESCO World Heritage town of Takayama. Here we will be staying at a stunning temple for the night. In the afternoon, We’ll sample sake in a local brewery and you can even treat yourself to some famous Hida beef!

Day 6 - Morning Market Walk, To Kyoto! Gion District Walking Tour
Start the morning with a walk around the beautiful old town and village of Takayama as well as a visit to the morning market on the banks of the Miyagawa River. We will then head to Kyoto by bullet train. In the evening a local tour guide will guide us around Kyoto’s Gion district, known for Geisha’s (Japan’s traditional art form of entertainment), if you are lucky enough, you might even spot one.

Day 7 - Kyoto: Kiyomizu-Dera, Fushimi-Inari & Tea Ceremony
We’ll rise before dawn and take the subway to the Fushimi-Inari Shrine. We arrive early to escape the throng of tourists and work our way through the mountain exploring corridors of never ending red gates. After, we will head to Kiyomizu-dera temple, one of Japan’s most famous temples. A stunning bamboo and wooden complex that sits high in the mountain side. We finish up with a traditional Tea Ceremony, where you can even rent kimonos!
You will have the rest of the day free to explore.

Day 8 - Kyoto: Golden Pavilion! Zen Garden & Kendo Class
We head to the stunning Golden Pavilion, a beautiful gold laden building surrounded by a lake. After we’ll head to Daitoku-ji, a quiet, leafy complex of old temples. In the afternoon we head to a traditional Kendo class housed in the dojo where it all began. Your authentic Bushido instructor, a descendant of a Japanese Samurai, will teach you the way of this respectful martial art.
*Please note the Kendo class may take place on day 7 or day 8 depending on each departure.

Day 9 - Bamboo Forest, Monkey Mountain, Osaka Dotonbori Food Tour
The day starts with a train ride to Arashiyama, a town surrounded by mountains and a river running through it. The itinerary includes a visit to the bamboo forest, climbing Monkey Mountain, a traditional Japanese boat ride through the valleys. We then head on to Osaka where in the evening, we explore the famous Dotonbori area. The food, people, lights, and colors of the "kitchen of Japan" will be experienced before ending the tour with karaoke in the evening.

Day 10 - Depart
After nursing your head’s from last nights antics, it’s time to say goodbye to your group and the new friends  you have made from your tour. We hope we have shown you the best that Japan has to offer!

Day 10 - Osaka: Osaka Castle Gardens
After nursing your head from last night’s antics, we thought it best to give you the morning off to explore Osaka yourself. Visit the incredibly trendy AmericaTown, wander down the Shinsaibashi Shopping District, give your body a well-deserved rest in Spa World or browse the wonderful world of electronics in Den-Den Town. We’ll meet in the evening and head over to Osaka Castle, a beautiful structure in the centre of the city surrounded by lush gardens. We’ll watch the sunset from here, before heading over to Dotonbori’s little brother, Shinsekai, for dinner in the evening.

Day 11 - Nara: Nara Park & then on to Koyasan Temple Stay
An early start today as we head out of the city, 45 minutes on the train to beautiful Nara. As we leave the train station and begin our walk towards the main park, keep your eyes out for the friendly locals along the way. Nara is famous for being a city that lives symbiotically with deer and is historically important as the former capital of ancient Japan.
We’ll make our way around the serene park & stunning temples before heading back to Osaka to collect our bags and make our way to Koyasan. After a 90-minute ride, we’ll take a mix of cable cars and finally a bus to our accommodation deep in the heart of the mountain. Koyasan is a beautiful little temple town summed up by the tourism boards slogan “If nature does indeed bring mankind closer to the cosmos, then Koyasan is its embodiment”. This is your chance to live the temple way of life in a real, working temple. Learn more about the monks that dedicate their lives to this area and wander the countless temples and shrines that are dotted all around. Dinner is a very special vegetarian meal made from ingredients sourced by the monks in the local area.

Day 12 - Hiroshima: Danjo Garan Complex Tour & Hiroshima Peace Memorial
Wake in the morning to the sound of nature and take part in the morning chanting prayers with the monks. Breakfast is a traditional “temple style” meal made by the monks. Make sure to make the most of your final morning in this truly unforgettable destination. Just before lunch we’ll make our way back to Osaka and head to Hiroshima on the bullet train.
After a 90-minute ride, we’ll take the streetcar to our accommodation in the centre of the city. After some down time, we’ll walk to the humbling Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and be taken around this area by our local guide to truly educate you on the area’s astonishing past. View the Atomic Dome, ring the peace bell and say a prayer at the eternal flame. This incredibly important city will live long in the memory.
We’ll then finish with a walk around the museum to learn about Hiroshima’s devastating past before grabbing some food and calling it a night.

Day 13 - Miyajima Island: Itsukushima Shrine, Hall of 1,000 Mats
Today we take the metro to the beautiful Miyajima Island, location 1hr away from Hiroshima. On arrival we’ll take a short ferry ride to the island, known for its stunning collection of forests and ancient temples. After disembarking from the ferry we’ll take an easy stroll around the island, visiting the incredible Great Torii gate which sits just offshore. This famous giant, orange Torii gate sits partially submerged at high tide. Next, you’ll have the afternoon free to explore the serenity of the rest of this island paradise. In the evening, we’ll head out one last time as a group for our final day in Japan.

Day 14 - Depart
And that’s a wrap! Today we finish in the beautiful city of Hiroshima, take one final walk around the memorial park or go for a sunrise run along the river.

Day 1 – Welcome to Japan! Tokyo Time
Your Japan adventure kicks off in Tokyo's historic Asakusa district! Drop your bags at tonights hostel and meet your guide, who'll introduce you to your new travel family over an epic Japanese feast.
As night falls and the crowds thin out, experience a traveller's secret: Senso-ji Temple after dark. The iconic red lanterns and ancient architecture hit different when they're lit up at night - perfect for your first taste of Tokyo's magic.

Day 2 - Explore Tokyo, Harajuku, Yoyogi Park & Akihabara
Kick off your morning with a Japan Orientation Briefing, where you will learn about simple Japanese customs and phrases. After that, you will head to Harajuku, the birthplace of Japanese teen pop culture, followed by a visit to Yoyogi Park, which houses the beautiful Meiji Shrine.
Later in the day, you will be heading to Akihabara, also known as Tokyo's electric town. Here, you will be amazed by the neon lights and the variety of shops around the area. You can engage in arcade games, explore the famous Maid Cafes, or simply wander around the town. For those of you who want to try street go-karting*, this will be your chance! Take to the streets in a go-kart while wearing your favorite character costume.

Day 3 - Explore Tokyo & Shibuya evening
This trip is all about travelling your way... So you have the first half of the day to yourself! Your guide will be available to assist you with your plans, but you could attend a sushi-making class*, visit the Imperial Palace, or simply wander around this enchanting city. Later in the evening, you will travel to Shinjuku, where you can take in an unparalleled view of Tokyo's skyline, explore the famous Omoide Yokocho Alley and have dinner before observing the iconic Shibuya Pedestrian Crossing.

Day 4 - Hakone, Mt Fuji Viewing & Romance Car
Today, you will embark on a journey to the beautiful mountain town of Hakone by taking the "Romance Car." On your arrival, you will check into your guesthouse and then take a train deeper into the mountains to explore.Hakone is known for its delicious food and offers a breathtaking view of Mt. Fuji (weather permitting). After a day of exploring and taking pictures of Japan's most famous mountain, you will return to your guesthouse for a family-style dinner.
If you have asthma or a respiratory condition, it is best to avoid the brief visit to Owakudani. Please speak to your guide for alternative arrangements.

Day 5 - To Kyoto! Gion District Walking Tour & Yakitori
Say goodbye to the peaceful surroundings of Hakone, you will take the bullet train journey to Kyoto, the ancient capital of Japan. On your arrival, you will check into your accommodation, which is conveniently located near the traditional area. After settling in, you will set out to explore the surrounding neighbourhood. In the evening, you will be accompanied by a guide on a walking tour of Kyoto's Gion district. This area is famous for its Geishas, the traditional art form of entertainment in Japan. If you are lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of one. After the walking tour, you will be treated to a delicious dinner at one of the best yakitori (grilled chicken sticks) places in town, which is included in your tour.

Day 6 - Kyoto, Kiyomizu-Dera & Fushimi-Inari
You will wake up before dawn and take the subway to the Fushimi-Inari Shrine. You and your group will arrive early to avoid the huge crowds of tourists and explore the winding corridors of the red gates that seem to go on forever. After that, you will head towards Kiyomizu-dera temple, which is one of Japan's most famous temples, and an absolute must-see. It is a breathtaking bamboo and wooden complex that sits high on the mountainside. The rest of the day will be free for you to explore at your own pace. If you want to experience the traditional side of Japan, you can choose to participate in a tea ceremony* and rent a kimono.

Day 7 - Bamboo Forest, Monkey Mountain
Your day will start with a train ride to Arashiyama, a picturesque town surrounded by mountains and a river flowing through it. Today's itinerary includes a visit to the stunning bamboo forest, a climb up Monkey Mountain, and an optional traditional Japanese boat ride through the valleys. You will have the afternoon free to explore the town at your leisure. If you've opted for the Samurai and Ninja Museum*, get ready to dive into history and discover rare artefacts.

Day 8 - Golden Pavilion, Zen Garden, Osaka Food Walk
You will head to the breathtaking Golden Pavilion, a stunning building covered in gold and surrounded by a lake and a beautiful traditional Japanese garden. After that, you will visit the peaceful Daitoku-ji, a complex of old temples nestled in a leafy area where you can reflect on your adventures so far in a serene environment. Later, you will be exploring the famous Dotonbori area in Osaka, where you will experience the food, the people, the lights, and the vibrant colours of the "kitchen of Japan." Your guide will show you the best spots for street food, and you will have the chance to taste some of the delicacies that make Osaka such a renowned foodie city. The evening will finish with a night of karaoke and drinks.

Day 9 - Osaka: Osaka Castle Gardens
After nursing your head from last night’s antics, we thought it best to give you the morning off to explore Osaka yourself. You may choose to visit AmericaTown, where you can explore unique shops and cafes, or relax and rejuvenate at Spa World, a sprawling complex offering various international-themed baths and wellness treatments. Alternatively, dive into the culinary history of Japan at the Ramen Museum, where you can sample different regional varieties of this beloved dish. Or for those of you who want to explore Osaka’s dark underbelly with a local, join the Osaka Backstreets tour!
In the evening, you’ll regroup to visit the historic Osaka Castle, a magnificent structure surrounded by beautiful gardens and moats. After watching the sunset, you’ll then head over to the vibrant Shinsekai district, Dotonbori’s little brother. Here, you can savour a variety of local delicacies for dinner, explore bustling streets filled with neon lights, and experience the lively atmosphere that makes this area a must-visit.

Day 12 - Miyajima Island: Itsukushima Shrine, Hall of 1,000 Mats
Today you will take the metro towards the beautiful Miyajima Island, located about 1hr away from Hiroshima. Once you’re off the metro, you’ll take a short ferry ride to the island, known for its stunning collection of forests and ancient temples. You’ll take an easy stroll around the island, visiting the incredible Great Torii gate that sits just offshore. This famous giant, orange Torii gate sits partially submerged at high tide. Next, you’ll have the afternoon free to explore the serenity of the rest of this island paradise. If you’re looking to immerse yourself even further in Japanese culture, consider booking a Traditional Japanese Archery experience as an optional extra. In the evening, you’ll head out one last time as a group for your final evening together in Japan!

Day 13 - Farewell

Day 1 – Welcome to Japan! Tokyo Time
Touch down in Tokyo! Arrive into your Tokyo hostel and relax until the evening. Tonight we’ll take you out to feast on Japanese cuisine and meet the rest of your group. After dinner when the crowds have all dispersed, we explore the iconic Tokyo Senso-ji Temple by night!

Day 2 - Explore Tokyo: Harajuku, Yoyogi Park & Akihabara
We’ll start the morning off with a Japan Orientation Briefing. You’ll learn simple Japanese customs and phrases to help you dictate your way across the country. We’ll then head out to the birth place of Japanese teen pop culture, Harajuku. We’ll then head into Yoyogi Park, host of the beautiful Meiji Shrine.
Afterwards, we’ll head to Akihabara – Tokyo’s electric town – and be blinded by the all the neon lights and chaotic shops in store. You can challenge each other in the arcades, check out the famous Maid Cafes or just wander around the area.

Day 3 - Tokyo: Sushi Making Class & Shibuya Crossing
In the morning after breakfast we will head over to our own private sushi making class! You will learn how to make Miso soup, three types of sushi and the secrets behind Teriyaki! Vegetarian option is available but you must notify your guide/One Life a week before the tour starts. This evening we head to Shinjuku, we’ll see an unparalleled skyline of Tokyo, check out the famous Omoide Yokocho alley & grab some dinner. before viewing the famous Shibuya Pedestrian Crossing.

Day 4 - Hakone: Mt Fuji Viewing & Romance Car
Today we take the aptly named “Romance Car” to the stunning mountain town of Hakone. After checking into our guest house situated in the mountains, we will spend the day exploring the surrounding areas on a variety of different transports. Why is Hakone so special? Well, not only is the food incredible but you can get a spectacular view of Mt Fuji (weather dependent.) After a day of exploring and taking photos of Japan’s most famous mountain we’ll arrange a traditional Japanese Family Nabe dinner in our guesthouse and finish the day playing some games.
*If you have asthma/respiratory condition, the brief visit to Owakudani is not advisable, please speak to your guide for an alternate arrangement.

Day 5 - Takayama: Sake Tasting, Temple Stay & Old Town Tour
Today is the day we ride the world-famous shinkansen for the first time. Watch them fly by on the platform before boarding one of the world’s fastest train.
Keep an eye out for Mt Fuji on the way. First stop is the UNESCO World Heritage town of Takayama. Here we will be staying at a stunning temple for the night. In the afternoon, We’ll sample sake in a local brewery and you can even treat yourself to some famous Hida beef!

Day 6 - Morning Market Walk, To Kyoto! Gion District Walking Tour
Start the morning with a walk around the beautiful old town and village of Takayama as well as a visit to the morning market on the banks of the Miyagawa River. We will then head to Kyoto by bullet train. In the evening a local tour guide will guide us around Kyoto’s Gion district, known for Geisha’s (Japan’s traditional art form of entertainment), if you are lucky enough, you might even spot one.

Day 7 - Kyoto: Kiyomizu-Dera, Fushimi-Inari & Tea Ceremony
We’ll rise before dawn and take the subway to the Fushimi-Inari Shrine. We arrive early to escape the throng of tourists and work our way through the mountain exploring corridors of never ending red gates. After, we will head to Kiyomizu-dera temple, one of Japan’s most famous temples. A stunning bamboo and wooden complex that sits high in the mountain side. We finish up with a traditional Tea Ceremony, where you can even rent kimonos!
You will have the rest of the day free to explore.

Day 8 - Kyoto: Golden Pavilion! Zen Garden & Kendo Class
We head to the stunning Golden Pavilion, a beautiful gold laden building surrounded by a lake. After we’ll head to Daitoku-ji, a quiet, leafy complex of old temples. In the afternoon we head to a traditional Kendo class housed in the dojo where it all began. Your authentic Bushido instructor, a descendant of a Japanese Samurai, will teach you the way of this respectful martial art.
*Please note the Kendo class may take place on day 7 or day 8 depending on each departure.

Day 9 - Bamboo Forest, Monkey Mountain, Osaka Dotonbori Food Tour
The day starts with a train ride to Arashiyama, a town surrounded by mountains and a river running through it. The itinerary includes a visit to the bamboo forest, climbing Monkey Mountain, a traditional Japanese boat ride through the valleys. We then head on to Osaka where in the evening, we explore the famous Dotonbori area. The food, people, lights, and colors of the "kitchen of Japan" will be experienced before ending the tour with karaoke in the evening.

Day 10 - Depart
After nursing your head’s from last nights antics, it’s time to say goodbye to your group and the new friends  you have made from your tour. We hope we have shown you the best that Japan has to offer!

Day 10 - Osaka: Osaka Castle Gardens
After nursing your head from last night’s antics, we thought it best to give you the morning off to explore Osaka yourself. Visit the incredibly trendy AmericaTown, wander down the Shinsaibashi Shopping District, give your body a well-deserved rest in Spa World or browse the wonderful world of electronics in Den-Den Town. We’ll meet in the evening and head over to Osaka Castle, a beautiful structure in the centre of the city surrounded by lush gardens. We’ll watch the sunset from here, before heading over to Dotonbori’s little brother, Shinsekai, for dinner in the evening.

Day 11 - Nara: Nara Park & then on to Koyasan Temple Stay
An early start today as we head out of the city, 45 minutes on the train to beautiful Nara. As we leave the train station and begin our walk towards the main park, keep your eyes out for the friendly locals along the way. Nara is famous for being a city that lives symbiotically with deer and is historically important as the former capital of ancient Japan.
We’ll make our way around the serene park & stunning temples before heading back to Osaka to collect our bags and make our way to Koyasan. After a 90-minute ride, we’ll take a mix of cable cars and finally a bus to our accommodation deep in the heart of the mountain. Koyasan is a beautiful little temple town summed up by the tourism boards slogan “If nature does indeed bring mankind closer to the cosmos, then Koyasan is its embodiment”. This is your chance to live the temple way of life in a real, working temple. Learn more about the monks that dedicate their lives to this area and wander the countless temples and shrines that are dotted all around. Dinner is a very special vegetarian meal made from ingredients sourced by the monks in the local area.

Day 12 - Hiroshima: Danjo Garan Complex Tour & Hiroshima Peace Memorial
Wake in the morning to the sound of nature and take part in the morning chanting prayers with the monks. Breakfast is a traditional “temple style” meal made by the monks. Make sure to make the most of your final morning in this truly unforgettable destination. Just before lunch we’ll make our way back to Osaka and head to Hiroshima on the bullet train.
After a 90-minute ride, we’ll take the streetcar to our accommodation in the centre of the city. After some down time, we’ll walk to the humbling Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and be taken around this area by our local guide to truly educate you on the area’s astonishing past. View the Atomic Dome, ring the peace bell and say a prayer at the eternal flame. This incredibly important city will live long in the memory.
We’ll then finish with a walk around the museum to learn about Hiroshima’s devastating past before grabbing some food and calling it a night.

And that’s a wrap! Today we finish in the beautiful city of Hiroshima, take one final walk around the memorial park or go for a sunrise run along the river.

As night falls and the crowds thin out, experience a traveller's secret: Senso-ji Temple after dark. The iconic red lanterns and ancient architecture hit different when they're lit up at night - perfect for your first taste of Tokyo's magic.

Day 2 - Explore Tokyo, Harajuku, Yoyogi Park & Akihabara
Kick off your morning with a Japan Orientation Briefing, where you will learn about simple Japanese customs and phrases. After that, you will head to Harajuku, the birthplace of Japanese teen pop culture, followed by a visit to Yoyogi Park, which houses the beautiful Meiji Shrine.
Later in the day, you will be heading to Akihabara, also known as Tokyo's electric town. Here, you will be amazed by the neon lights and the variety of shops around the area. You can engage in arcade games, explore the famous Maid Cafes, or simply wander around the town. For those of you who want to try street go-karting*, this will be your chance! Take to the streets in a go-kart while wearing your favorite character costume.

Day 3 - Explore Tokyo & Shibuya evening
This trip is all about travelling your way... So you have the first half of the day to yourself! Your guide will be available to assist you with your plans, but you could attend a sushi-making class*, visit the Imperial Palace, or simply wander around this enchanting city. Later in the evening, you will travel to Shinjuku, where you can take in an unparalleled view of Tokyo's skyline, explore the famous Omoide Yokocho Alley and have dinner before observing the iconic Shibuya Pedestrian Crossing.

Day 4 - Hakone, Mt Fuji Viewing & Romance Car
Today, you will embark on a journey to the beautiful mountain town of Hakone by taking the "Romance Car." On your arrival, you will check into your guesthouse and then take a train deeper into the mountains to explore.Hakone is known for its delicious food and offers a breathtaking view of Mt. Fuji (weather permitting). After a day of exploring and taking pictures of Japan's most famous mountain, you will return to your guesthouse for a family-style dinner.
If you have asthma or a respiratory condition, it is best to avoid the brief visit to Owakudani. Please speak to your guide for alternative arrangements.

Day 5 - To Kyoto! Gion District Walking Tour & Yakitori
Say goodbye to the peaceful surroundings of Hakone, you will take the bullet train journey to Kyoto, the ancient capital of Japan. On your arrival, you will check into your accommodation, which is conveniently located near the traditional area. After settling in, you will set out to explore the surrounding neighbourhood. In the evening, you will be accompanied by a guide on a walking tour of Kyoto's Gion district. This area is famous for its Geishas, the traditional art form of entertainment in Japan. If you are lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of one. After the walking tour, you will be treated to a delicious dinner at one of the best yakitori (grilled chicken sticks) places in town, which is included in your tour.

Day 6 - Kyoto, Kiyomizu-Dera & Fushimi-Inari
You will wake up before dawn and take the subway to the Fushimi-Inari Shrine. You and your group will arrive early to avoid the huge crowds of tourists and explore the winding corridors of the red gates that seem to go on forever. After that, you will head towards Kiyomizu-dera temple, which is one of Japan's most famous temples, and an absolute must-see. It is a breathtaking bamboo and wooden complex that sits high on the mountainside. The rest of the day will be free for you to explore at your own pace. If you want to experience the traditional side of Japan, you can choose to participate in a tea ceremony* and rent a kimono.

Day 7 - Bamboo Forest, Monkey Mountain

Day 8 - Golden Pavilion, Zen Garden, Osaka Food Walk
You will head to the breathtaking Golden Pavilion, a stunning building covered in gold and surrounded by a lake and a beautiful traditional Japanese garden. After that, you will visit the peaceful Daitoku-ji, a complex of old temples nestled in a leafy area where you can reflect on your adventures so far in a serene environment. Later, you will be exploring the famous Dotonbori area in Osaka, where you will experience the food, the people, the lights, and the vibrant colours of the "kitchen of Japan." Your guide will show you the best spots for street food, and you will have the chance to taste some of the delicacies that make Osaka such a renowned foodie city. The evening will finish with a night of karaoke and drinks.

Day 9 - Osaka: Osaka Castle Gardens
After nursing your head from last night’s antics, we thought it best to give you the morning off to explore Osaka yourself. You may choose to visit AmericaTown, where you can explore unique shops and cafes, or relax and rejuvenate at Spa World, a sprawling complex offering various international-themed baths and wellness treatments. Alternatively, dive into the culinary history of Japan at the Ramen Museum, where you can sample different regional varieties of this beloved dish. Or for those of you who want to explore Osaka’s dark underbelly with a local, join the Osaka Backstreets tour!
In the evening, you’ll regroup to visit the historic Osaka Castle, a magnificent structure surrounded by beautiful gardens and moats. After watching the sunset, you’ll then head over to the vibrant Shinsekai district, Dotonbori’s little brother. Here, you can savour a variety of local delicacies for dinner, explore bustling streets filled with neon lights, and experience the lively atmosphere that makes this area a must-visit.

Once you’re off the metro, you’ll take a short ferry ride to the island, known for its stunning collection of forests and ancient temples. You’ll take an easy stroll around the island, visiting the incredible Great Torii gate that sits just offshore. This famous giant, orange Torii gate sits partially submerged at high tide. Next, you’ll have the afternoon free to explore the serenity of the rest of this island paradise. If you’re looking to immerse yourself even further in Japanese culture, consider booking a Traditional Japanese Archery experience as an optional extra. In the evening, you’ll head out one last time as a group for your final evening together in Japan!

Itinerary:


Day 1: Osaka. Arrive before 3:00 pm and join your group and CEO for a Welcome Meeting in the evening around 6:00 pm. 

Accommodation: City Route Hotel (or similar) - Hotel

Today's activities:
  • Meet yoour CEO and Group: Your opportunity to meet your CEO and fellow travellers, and learn more about your tour. Opt to join the group for a local meal afterwards. Don't forget to see the notice in the lobby (or ask reception) for the official time and place to meet up with the group.
  • Orientation With CEO: Enjoy a brief walk with your CEO. He/she will give you some tips on finding things like supermarkets, main squares, and ATMs. For more specific or in-depth information, an official guided tour is recommended.
The most convenient way to get around Japan is by public transportation and on foot. The country's train system is often considered one of the best in the entire world so the majority of our trips utilize this efficient train network. In this tour, you will need to be able to spend the majority of the day on your feet and carry your luggage through busy train stations and streets. On average, tours in Japan walk about 15,000 steps a day. Please ensure you are fit enough to carry your own luggage and spend most of the day on your feet.


Day 2: Osaka/Kōyasan. Travel to the centre of Buddhism in Japan and sleep in a temple atop the 800m Mt Koya. Savour a traditional dinner of shojin ryori (Buddhist vegetarian cuisine).

Accommodation: Sekishoin (or similar) - Temple

Today's activities:
  • Train: Osaka - Kõyasan, 3 hours. Climb aboard, take a seat, and enjoy the ride.
  • Overnight in Mount Kōya Temple: During the overnight stay in the mountain temple, witness the routines of the monks and dine on typical fare. Explore the temples and moss covered Oku-no-in cemetery in the afternoon. In the evening, savour the shojin-ryori vegetarian cuisine, and relax in a yukata or kimono. Early morning at the temple offers the chance to observe the monks praying, before a vegetarian breakfast. Breathe the fresh mountain air and soak in the beautiful surroundings.
While we ride the bullet train, your main luggage will be sent on Japan’s takkyubin service (luggage transfer) to the next destination. Please note, you will NOT have access to your main luggage for approximately 24 hours. You must pack an overnight bag with everything you’ll need until you’re reunited with your luggage the following day. Only one bag per passenger is permitted on the luggage transfer. If you have more, there will be an additional charge at the traveler's expense.


Day 3: Kōyasan/Hiroshima. Watch the monks pray in the morning and enjoy a traditional breakfast. Have some time to enjoy Koyasan this morning, before travelling to Hiroshima this afternoon.

Accommodation: Toyoko Inn Hiroshimaeki Shinkansenguchi II (or similar) - Hotel

Today's activities:
  • Bullet Train: Kõyasan - Hiroshima, 5 hours. Get to your next destination faster than the speed of light (ok maybe not that fast) aboard a high-speed train.
  • Oku-no-in Cemetery Visit: Oku-no-in is the most sacred site in Koyasan and the location of the mausoleum for Kobo Daishi (also known as Kukai), the founder of Shingon Buddhism. The area is surrounded by a massive cemetery, the largest in Japan. With over 200,000 tombstones lining the almost 2km path to Kobo Daishi's mausoleum, there is plenty of area to explore. Be sure to see Torodo Hall (Hall of Lamps), the main place of worship, where more than 10,000 lanterns are kept burning day and night.

Day 4: Hiroshima. This morning, visit the Peace Park and Memorial Museum commemorating the events of 1945. In the afternoon, take a ferry ride over to the sacred island of Miyajima to see the famous floating Torii Gate. Opt to hike around Mt Misen.

Accommodation: Toyoko Inn Hiroshimaeki Shinkansenguchi II (or similar) - Hotel

Today's activities:
  • Hiroshima Park and Peace Memorial: Walk through the Peace Park in the centre of Hiroshima, a living memorial dedicated to the tens of thousands who died from the atomic bomb blast in 1945. Visit the statue of Sadako Sasaki, a young girl who died of leukemia as a result of the bomb blast, despite folding 1,000 origami paper cranes to appeal to the gods to make her well. See the frame of the Gembaku Dome, the sole building to withstand the explosion. Reflect, remember, and be reminded of the power we all hold to create peace.
  • Ferry: Hiroshima - Miyajima. Hop a ferry to reach the island and journey back in the evening.
  • Miyajima Island Visit: Take a trip to Miyajima Island, famed as one of Japan's most scenic spots, with a free afternoon to explore. See the famous floating Torii Gate, set out in the bay, which glows extraordinarily at sunset. The island is dotted with shrines and temples, populated by deer, and traversed with hiking trails for those who want to get some exercise. There are also lanes full of souvenirs and tasty treats. Visit Miyajima at your own pace, and have the option to hike up to the peak of the island, Mt Misen, to see spectacular views of the surrounding islands.
  • Free Time: Free time on Miyajima Island to make the most of this beautiful location.

Day 5: Hiroshima/Kyoto. Travel to Kyoto and start exploring. Visit the impressive Nijo Castle and gardens, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the evening, explore the geisha district of Gion on a CEO-led walking tour.
 
Accommodation: Prince Smart Inn Kyoto Sanjo (or similar) - Hotel

Today's activities:
  • Bullet Train: Hiroshima-eki - Ōsaka, 1 hour and 30 minutes. Get to your next destination faster than the speed of light (ok maybe not that fast) aboard a high-speed train.
  • Local Train: Osaka - Kyoto, 1 hour. Climb aboard, take a seat, and enjoy the ride.
  • Gion Walk: Walk through Gion, Kyoto's most famous geisha district. Visit shops, restaurants and ochaya (teahouses), where geiko (Kyoto dialect for geisha) and maiko (geiko apprentices) entertain.
  • Nijo Castle and Gardens Visit: Visit the Nijo Castle, the residence of the first shogun of the Edo Period built in 1603. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the property is divided into three areas: the Honmaru (main circular fortification), Ninomaru (secondary circle of defense), and the gorgeous gardens that surround both.
Please note the Ninomaru Palace at Nijo Castle will be closed from Dec 26-Jan 3. Groups travelling during this time will visit the Kiyomizu-dera Temple.


Day 6: Kyoto. Enjoy a visit to the beautiful Fushimi Inari Taisha shrine and walk under the bright torii gates. Opt to shop, stroll along the riverbank, or explore another of Kyoto's many temples with free time.

Accommodation: Prince Smart Inn Kyoto Sanjo (or similar) - Hotel

Today's activities:
  • Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine Visit: Visit the Fushimi Inari shrine, located just outside of Kyoto. Walk under the thousands of iconic torii gates (as seen in the film Memoirs of a Geisha) and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. The shrine itself is at the base of the Inari mountain but includes many trails up to smaller shrines in the area.
  • Free Time: Continue exploring Japan's historic capital with some free time.

Day 7: Kyoto/Hakone. Take a boat ride on Lake Ashino-ko, and hopefully catch a glimpse of majestic Mt Fuji. Enjoy a feast on a traditional Japanese kaiseki meal then soak in the natural hot springs. Travel to Hakone, a town in the hills famous for its onsens, or natural hot springs.

Accommodation: Hotel Kagetsuen (or similar) - Hotel

Today's activities:
  • Bullet Train: Odawara - Kyoto, 3 hours. Get to your next destination faster than the speed of light (ok maybe not that fast) aboard a high-speed train.
  • Local Bus: Odawara - Hakone, 30 minutes. Climb aboard, grab a seat, and enjoy the ride.
  • Lake Ashino-ko Boat Ride: Hop aboard a passenger boat to cruise the waters of Lake Ashinoko. If you are lucky, on a clear day you can capture a view of Mt Fuji. The lake was formed from the caldera of Mt Hakone following its eruption 3000 years ago. Sit back, relax and enjoy.
  • Traditional Kaiseki Meal: Savour a complex meal of traditional Japanese foods, then finish the day with a soak in the onsen.
While we ride the bullet train, your main luggage will be sent on Japan’s takkyubin service (luggage transfer) to the next destination.   • Local Train: Hakone Tokyo. Climb aboard, your seat, and get around like the locals do.

Day 9: Tokyo. Depart at any time.
