Accommodation and WiFi

All interns in Jordan are accommodated in an apartment with a balcony, located in the heart of Amman in the Jabal al-Weibdeh neighborhood, known for its bohemian vibe and quaint cafes. This is located approximately 10 minute’s drive from the central office of the local team. Upon request, Arabic language lessons can be arranged at the apartment accommodation itself, in order to avoid commuting.

Bedrooms in the apartment are shared and guests should expect to share the room with up to 3 roommates of the same gender. A private bedroom may be requested in advance but this is subject to availability and there is an accommodation surcharge that must be paid for the special reservation. Each guest has access to use of a lockable private closet for storing belongings.

Bathrooms are shared and toilets can be accessed by diverse genders. There are two bathrooms per apartment, with western-style toilet installations. Note that the toilets may be equipped with a bidet shower, which is common use in Jordan. Water is used instead of, or together with, toilet paper, for hygiene purposes. Given that most toilets in Jordan do not always contain toilet paper, all interns are advised to ensure they prepare to source their own throughout their time spent in Jordan. It can be purchased in-country, very affordably, at an estimated cost of US$4-8 per month.

Air conditioning is available in all rooms and you can use the remote controls to operate it. Guests will be asked to be energy efficient and environmentally friendly by turning off air conditioning when not in use and going out (in addition to lights and other appliances). The summer season runs from late May through early October. July is typically the hottest month, with an average high of 88°F / 31°C (and low of 66°F / 19°C). If you are sensitive to the heat, you may consider joining this program during cooler months.

A housekeeper comes twice a week to clean the general areas of the apartment. For guest privacy, housekeeping services do not include the bedrooms and guests are required to keep their own spaces tidy. However, linen changes can be made upon request (and this will be done to accommodate guest turnover). Guests can do their own laundry using the washing machine in the accommodation. Alternatively, there is also a laundromat nearby, which interns can access independently and must budget for its services.

The apartment has WiFi. To keep connected when out and about, you can also purchase a local SIM card with data for an unlocked mobile phone. The local team can assist you with this.

Please note that upon accommodation check in, a security deposit will be required (fully refundable upon check out, assuming that no damages, lost keys, or services need to be settled). This amount is US$100 and must always be paid in cash. Interns may be refunded the security deposit on the check-out date, after confirmation that the accommodation has been left without damage, property loss, or excessive cleaning requirements.

For commuting to and from the program accommodation, interns can use public transport, Taxi/Uber, or (depending on proximity) may even walk to/from the internship placement. A weekly budget of US$60 per week should be sufficient for use of public transport, in addition to miscellaneous expenses, such as laundry, bottled water, snacks, etc.

During busy times of the year, a secondary apartment (with similar amenities) may be utilized, depending on program capacity.
