Internship details

Exciting remote internships in Cyber Security, focused on the research, development and application of concepts for securing communications and control in the modern world of aerial, land and sea unmanned vehicles. Expect to develop your knowledge and skill sets in regard to cyber security concepts and emerging technologies.

This is a remote internship you can conduct from home.

The world of unmanned vehicles and drones is a field of rapid technological advancement, and remote Cyber Security interns get the rare opportunity to contribute to growing the capability of these technologies.

Remote Cyber Security interns are hosted via the International Hellenic University, which is part of an international research consortium, including academic and industrial bodies. The research being conducted continues to advance the capabilities of unmanned vehicles, specifically in improving the security of communications and control mechanisms. This is a hugely exciting opportunity for interns to learn from a range of industry leaders and to gain experience in a highly exclusive field.

As a virtual intern, you’ll help to investigate potential security weaknesses and collaborate on creative encryption techniques to mitigate and eliminate risks. You’ll develop hands-on computer engineering skills and app development expertise, working across a range of developments to understand the structure, nature and scope of cyber security projects. Interns also perform studies on different concepts and current practices and propose solutions for specific case studies.

You’ll be in direct contact with leading experts in drone technology, and collaborate regularly with your supervisor through email and online meetings. In these meetings, you’ll be able to deliver updates on your work, and receive feedback, guidance and further tasks.

In all cases, interns should expect that the initial phase of their remote internship will focus on gaining some introductory knowledge. You may start by gaining an understanding or overview of what you can build upon, develop, learn, and contribute. Ensure that you ask questions and provide feedback during the introductory period, so that your supervisor understands how you’re progressing. This will help them to better understand important details, such as how quickly you learn, what you find challenging, what you find interesting, etc.

Understand and expect that individual internship experiences vary. Therefore, if you’re at a more introductory level, you should reasonably expect a more introductory internship. Likewise, if you’re interning for a shorter duration, you will have a different experience from someone who is interning for a longer duration. Placement preferences are considered but always subject to availability.

What recent interns said about their experience

William Marsala
August 2020

In the meeting with my coordinator for my virtual internship in cyber security, we laid out everything for me to accomplish. We had multiple weekly meetings and remained connected throughout, sending messages when online meetings were not practical. My role as a virtual cyber security intern had a focus on encryption and helping an organization to secure data, which is vital for every organization in our modern world. I found it interesting to conduct research on ROUV’s and learn more about them and how they function in the world of cyber security. Everything during the remote internship went as planned and I definitely gained more experience in conducting research and presenting my findings to others. I also learned more about the coding language Python and received more hands-on experience with it. My favorite take-away from my remote internship was overcoming all the challenges that were put in front of me with hard work and dedication. I feel more empowered in cybersecurity work now because I know I can now actually do work that is required of me when I get a job. I am majoring in cybersecurity and homeland security and before this internship, I was slightly apprehensive about how different school work would be from real-world work. However, this internship allowed me to get the experience I needed to understand how real-world assignments work.
