Intern in Thailand with Intern Abroad HQ, to support marine conservation initiatives. Situated on the tropical island of Koh Tao, interns with a passion for marine life, a willingness to improve confidence and knowledge in and out of the water, and a desire to develop underwater research skills and contribute to meaningful and impactful marine conservation, are encouraged to apply. Marine Conservation internships provide education and training related to underwater research, monitoring and conservation. This is a scuba diving program, requiring interns to meet diving eligibility requirements in advance, or complete training on-site, prior to the program start date.

1) Explorer 30 - Advanced (2 days)
While continuing to build on the skills from Open Water 20, this course will help you advance your buoyancy skills and expand your spatial awareness.
After your Deep dive and course completion, you will be certified to dive to a max depth of 30 meters and learn a few advanced diving specialty skills.
The course consists of 3 mandatory dives (Buoyancy Dive, Navigation Dive & Deep Dive along with 2 electives of your choice. Choose from these options: Night Dive, Shipwreck Dive, Photography Dive, Search & Recovery Dive, or Underwater Naturalist Dive.

2) RAID Master Rescue + First Aid & O2 Provider Combined Courses (4 days)
The RAID Master Rescue Diver course will instill in you the ability and confidence to prevent and respond to diving related emergencies.
The course focuses on risk management and incident prevention, rescue response and problem solving skills, dive planning and buoyancy control. It also trains divers how to respond effectively should an accident occur while diving.
This course is often cited by divers as the most fun course in their diving career while also giving them the most confidence in the water.
The RAID First Aid & Oxygen Provider course is a globally recognized First Aid certification.

Please note that for this package, you must arrive 16 days prior to your scheduled internship start date. The package includes dormitory-style (shared) accommodation at the partnered dive resort. To commence this program:
  • You must be able to float in a pool for 10 minutes unassisted.
  • You must be able to swim 200 meters with no swim aids or be able to swim 300 meters using a mask, fins & snorkel.
  • You must be medically fit to scuba dive.

1) RAID Open Water 20 Course (4 days)
  • Begin your scuba diving course before you arrive with e-learning online. You will access all your RAID scuba diving course training manuals and quizzes using a secure login. 
  • On arrival, you will meet your instructor to review your pre-completed scuba diving course e-learning. Once completed, your instructor will conduct a few workshops and lectures before teaching you how to assemble your diving equipment.
  • Next, your instructor will go through all of the necessary skills to learn as a new diver. Together, you and your instructor will spend some time in the training pool with demonstrations and constructive feedback on your skills as you master them underwater. Throughout the pool session, you will be learning to control your buoyancy.
  • The Open Water 20 course consists of four dives in the ocean. These first two dives have a maximum depth of 12 meters, in which you will be demonstrating a portion of the skills from your confined session. For the third and fourth dives, you will demonstrate your remaining skills and then be certified as an internationally recognized Open Water scuba diver!
