If you’re looking to gain experience teaching the English language, then look no further! With internship placements teaching students in a range of language schools and/or public schools around Prague, these Language Education internships in the Czech Republic offer hands-on experience while being guided by experienced local teachers.
As an intern, you can support and assist local English language teachers to prepare and host English lessons for individuals, corporate clients or in open group courses. You’ll help to develop learning activities and games, as well as provide individual assistance to students during classes to ensure they’re being appropriately challenged. Teaching adult students means they’ll often already have an understanding of the English language, making communication much easier.
It is important to keep the general academic calendar in mind when you’re scheduling your Language Education internship. It is possible for interns to have a combined internship schedule, which may include placement at a public school, as well as at a language school for mature adult learners. If your internship coincides with the summer holiday period (from June through August) then your full-time internship schedule may be split between two placements, which is coordinated in order to work around any summer holiday disruptions.
Language Education interns are supported by a local teacher, who will help to provide tasks and feedback to ensure you’re maximizing your own learning experience. Interns will learn how to engage classrooms and students, and will have opportunities to both support the head teacher and host lessons yourself. There is also scope to contribute to the organization and management of language schools, which involves tasks related to ongoing administration.
In all cases, interns should expect that the first week of your experience will focus on settling in and gaining some introductory knowledge, as you will not “hit the ground running”. Rather, you should start with learning about the placement to gain an understanding of what you can build upon, develop, learn, and contribute. Ensure that you ask questions and provide feedback during the introductory period, so that your supervisor understands how you’re progressing. This will help them to better understand important details, such as how quickly you learn, what you find challenging, what you find interesting, etc.
Understand and expect that individual internship experiences vary, as the specific placement that you’re assigned will depend on review of your resume and your current level of studies and experience. Therefore, if you’re at a more introductory level, you should reasonably expect a more introductory internship. Likewise, if you’re interning for a shorter duration, you will have a different experience from someone who is interning for a longer duration. Placement preferences are considered but always subject to availability.

What recent interns said about their experience
For my Language Education internship in Prague, I was able to diversify my experience and intern with two different organizations. One was an international preschool in Prague, working with children from all around the world. The other placement was completed with The National Pegagic Institute. Through these two diverse internship opportunities, I was able to see how education works, outside of just the teacher's view, and learn more about education culture in Europe. At the international preschool, I interned as an Assistant Teacher, with children aged 2-6 years. I taught lessons, contributed to story-telling, led age-appropriate activities, and watched over children while encouraging the use of English throughout the day. At the Institute, I was able to tutor language learners and help them practice their English, while also proofreading documents and responding with feedback. I met many people involved in different aspects of education in the Czech Republic.

Czech language lessons
Fluency in the Czech language is not a requirement for interns in Prague, however basic Czech skills are strongly recommended. Keep in mind that although interns are not required to speak the Czech language, a language barrier may still be encountered to a certain extent. Interns should be prepared for the very natural and normal frustration of not always understanding what is being said around them. Most interns are able to have a successful internship experience and it is essential to come prepared and willing to surmount a language barrier, as opposed to being intimidated by it.
We encourage all interns to take advantage of the opportunity to learn some beginner lessons before and during their program, as this will enhance enjoyment of being in Prague, while developing professional social, and cultural competencies. Affordable and certified Czech lessons are offered directly through our local team and can be arranged once internship participation has been confirmed. The language instruction is offered through a member of AJŠ - Association of Language Schools and Agencies of the Czech Republic (Czechia).
Lessons can be taken in conjunction with the internship program (morning lessons, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. - allowing the afternoon free for internship activities). Otherwise, interns are welcome to arrive prior to their internship start date and take dedicated lessons for a week or so, before commencing the internship.
Weekends and travel
Prague is wonderful to explore - it’s a very walkable city and many sights can be seen as you spend time wandering through the historical streets. As you stroll through the medieval cobblestone lanes, you’ll quickly understand how the city earned its nickname as “The City of 100 Spires”. From the sprawling grounds of Prague Castle and St. Vitus Cathedral, down to Charles Bridge, the towers, and the exceptional astronomical clock, if you have an eye for craftsmanship and beauty, you’ll be amazed at every turn.
The city’s architecture has survived a tumultuous past within European history, and still contains one of earth’s most immaculate displays of architecture, including Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, Neo-Renaissance, Neo-Gothic, Art Nouveau, Cubist, Neo-Classical and ultra-modern styles. It’s worth taking a guided walking tour of the city to have them pointed out to you, so that you can gain a heightened appreciation of the cityscape.
Our local team in Prague operate licensed tourism operations and are available to arrange quality tours and professional excursions, at preferable rates. We recommend speaking to them first for advice about things to see and do. They have the best local tips that will ensure you make the most out of your time in the Czech Republic, while also getting great value out of your spending money.
In addition to exploring Prague, remember that within the Czech Republic there are other UNESCO World Heritage sites to explore, including the historical centre of Český Krumlov and Telč, as well as the Archbishop’s Chateau and gardens in Kroměříž. Ask the local team about excursions to see other beautiful and interesting cities and townships.
Arrival and Orientation
Internships in Prague begin every Monday and interns may choose to spend a minimum of 4 weeks, up to a maximum of 12 weeks. (Exceptions to start date availability may occur when start dates are closed due to public holiday disruptions or if the program has already reached capacity). Less internship positions are available during July and August, as many companies are affected by summer vacation activities.
Airport pick up and accommodation are included in the Program Fee.
- All participants fly into the Václav Havel Airport Prague (PRG), in order to receive their airport pick up and be transported to the accommodation by a pre-arranged driver. Note that all participants are advised not to book flights until they have first registered to confirm their internship placement.
- In the event that the arrival of luggage has been delayed by the airline, this should be reported to the driver, waiting to pick you up from the airport. The contact details of the driver are provided in advance. They can assist you.
- The accommodation is covered from the Sunday night before the Monday start date - interns are required to arrive no later than the Sunday before their Monday start date, as all orientations are held on Mondays.
- The last night of the accommodation is the Friday night of the final week, leaving interns free to depart on Saturday.
- Extra nights of accommodation can be arranged in advance, if requested, and are subject to availability.
Orientation takes place on the Monday start date and covers important details for the internship, including introductions, information about culture, customs, rules, expectations, safety, language lessons, cultural excursions, and more. Interns join their placement on the following day.
If you are planning to spend time in Prague prior to your internship and will not require an airport pick up, we can arrange an alternative pick up from another location within the central city.

Please note that upon accommodation check in, a security deposit may be required (fully refundable upon check out, assuming that no damages, lost keys, or services need to be settled). This amount is typically 100 Euro or 100 USD. It can be taken care of during the welcome meeting, at the coordinating office, and must always be paid in cash. Interns get the warranty back in the same currency at the end of the stay if they hand over the room in order. Depending on the assigned accommodation, there may additionally be a deposit for your entrance key card (usually 500 CZK = or approx. US$20 / 20 Euro).
Laundry services are available, either through the accommodation facilities or nearby laundromats. Laundry costs approximately 1-2 Euro per hour. Laundry services can be paid for through Visa or Mastercard and must be paid before the start of the washing or drying program. Interns may opt to use local laundromats as well.
Accommodation is usually within a short commuting distance by public transport, taxi, Uber or Bolt within 60 minutes of the local team’s office (where the Czech language lessons also take place). The maximum commute time to internship placements is usually between 40-60 minutes by public transportation (metro, tram or bus). In order to travel around Prague in public transport we strongly recommend that interns purchase a monthly ticket (approx. 45 Euro per month or US$50). The ticket is valid for metro, trams, buses, and even for boats and a cable car.
Please note that the accommodation pictured in the photo gallery of this webpage is provided as an example. Since we work with more than one option for accommodation, the exact accommodation that you’re assigned may differ from the photos. However, you can expect a similar standard and similar amenities, to what is shown.
Meals
It is important to note that internships in Prague do not include meals. Prague is one of Europe’s most affordable destinations and there is a fantastic culinary scene to explore - whether you’re on a budget or wanting to splurge, there is an excellent range of options for every intern. Local restaurants typically offer special lunch menus during the week, which cost about 10 Euro (approx. US$10.50). Although brand name groceries and imported goods may cost a little more, restaurant food and anything locally made can be very economical. Typical Czech meals are quite hearty and rich! Come prepared to try delicious rich meat dishes, with quality breads, sauces, dumplings, soups, stews and potato salads.
