Internship details

Build your understanding of workplace health and safety by gaining experience in policy, regulations and implementing preventative measures in Greek businesses in a range of industries. This is a remote internship conducted in English that you can undertake from home.

Remote internships in Occupational and Environmental Health & Safety are available across a range of industries. Interns who wish to gain practical experience have an exciting opportunity to learn from professionals in the field, tackling real-work challenges. You’ll gain practical experience to add to your theoretical understanding, helping to set you up for a rewarding health and safety career!

Virtual Interns are hosted by a consultancy company in Greece which specializes in personalized health and safety and risk management for companies around Athens. They have over 30 years of experience in conducting inspections of health and safety systems. This essential service is designed to improve the operational efficiency of companies and organizations, while reducing hazards and improving the wellbeing of employees. They provide legal support, health and safety training, and conduct analysis to measure potential pollutants.

As a virtual intern, you can gain experience with online tasks related to:

  • Strategic and operational level reviews/assessments of health and safety management
  • Compliance-based gap analysis
  • Workplace risk assessments
  • Comprehensive health and safety training
  • Senior management health and safety briefings
  • Risk management studies and reporting
  • Health and safety policy assessment
  • Liaising and support with enforcing agencies

As a remote intern, you’ll be in close contact with your supervisor, who is an experienced health and safety expert. Your supervisor will help to mentor you and guide your learning, with regular meetings to provide feedback and updates on your work.

In all cases, interns should expect that the initial phase of their remote internship will focus on gaining some introductory knowledge. You may start by gaining an understanding or overview of what you can build upon, develop, learn, and contribute. Ensure that you ask questions and provide feedback during the introductory period, so that your supervisor understands how you’re progressing. This will help them to better understand important details, such as how quickly you learn, what you find challenging, what you find interesting, etc.

Understand and expect that individual internship experiences vary. Therefore, if you’re at a more introductory level, you should reasonably expect a more introductory internship. Likewise, if you’re interning for a shorter duration, you will have a different experience from someone who is interning for a longer duration. Placement preferences are considered but always subject to availability.

Lubna Hazeem
August 2021

My internship experience has been great! I felt comfortable talking to my supervisor and my team and I communicated well despite the language barrier between us. I was very impressed with the level of commitment from my supervisor and internship placement. Upon receiving my very first task, I could see that they were well-prepared and organized, and were ready to answer any of my questions and concerns. The most important task I was involved in was report writing, and other skills that I learnt along the way included communicating with clients. My internship experience went a long way in developing my time management and communication skills. All these skills work in both the short term and the long term, as the long-term goal of the organization I was paired with was to build multicultural relationships and gain expertise from other countries, so I helped in expanding the knowledge and expertise of the company in this regard. I am currently training to be a consultant in the field of occupational safety and health, and now I am qualified in terms of my degree, and my practical experience from this placement.
