Accommodation and WiFi
Interns in Portrush, Northern Ireland, are accommodated together in shared accommodation, in the seaside resort town’s center. The sharehouse accommodation is situated close to the coast, near to lively restaurants, cafes, easy access to public transport, and other places of interest. With a good public transit network, many main sights are easy to reach.
Within the shared accommodation, interns can expect to share a bedroom with one other person, of the same gender. Bathroom facilities are shared. Shared common areas include a living room, kitchen, and dining area. Wifi is available throughout the accommodation at no additional cost.
Laundry services can be done at the accommodation (at no additional cost) or guests may use local laundromats. Amenities include hot showers, WiFi, and a smart television in the common area.
Any alternative accommodation requests must be communicated to the Program Manager in advance.
Meals
Meals are included in the Program Fee for this internship; however, this is provided in the form of independent living. Groceries are provided in order to equip internship participants with the opportunity to meal plan and cook for themselves. (Cookery lessons are included, for basic meals, such as omelettes, curry, burgers, pasta, stir-fry etc.) Interns can independently assist with cooking and cleaning - either as an individual or group effort.
It is important to be aware that vegetarian and other dietary requirements must be communicated in advance. There is an additional weekly surcharge if a gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian or vegan diet is requested. This is in order to provide specialty grocery items, which are often more expensive (e.g. soy milk, gluten free bread/pasta, protein supplements, etc). Once you have confirmed your internship participation, you can book and pay for this weekly surcharge in advance. In all cases, for snacks, treats and extra meals, budget and plan to take care of your own preferences independently.
Please come prepared to cooperate and be proactive, to ensure you can adequately take care of your dietary needs. While groceries are supplied on a weekly basis, individuals should assume responsibility to cover their own “extras” such as treats, snacks, dining out, takeaway orders, and other personal preferences. The local cost of food and dining in Portrush can vary widely depending on where you choose to shop and dine. A weekly budget of US$100-150 is recommended for meals and considered to be sufficient. Bear in mind that your weekly budget will be determined by your own personal spending habits and lifestyle choices, so please take this into consideration and plan accordingly.
